Our Members’ Day earlier in October was a great success, with a full day of activities for members.
We started the morning with an ‘All Foliage’ themed workshop, hosted by Area Demonstrator Helen Hare. 21 of our members joined in the fun, designing a waterfall arrangement. We used containers around two feet high (including vases and metal stands) with the floral foam container attached to the top.
You can see some of our finished work here:
We had great fun being creative with leaves and berries we had found in our own gardens, as well as some bought materials available on the day.
The finished arrangements were judged by Jenny and Helen to find the winner of the Forbes Trophy Competition. This was a tough job as the exhibits were all of a really high standard. Our congratulations go to Pat Milne who took first place, and a special mention too to Lesley Iannidinardo and Mary Hope who took second and third place respectively:
We then paused for lunch – the competition was hungry work! – and were joined by another 20 or so members for a tasty hot chicken dish and refreshing fruit salad.
After lunch, Mille Fleurs Hats of Otford joined us for a fascinating talk on the world of millinery and bespoke hat making. Gillian gave us a really interesting insight into how hats are made for special occasions, it is such a skilled profession.
The talk was a wonderful end to our annual Members’ Day, and we all left full of enthusiasm and fresh ideas.
